Draco ships and why I don't get many of the more popular ones

Note: This isn't an attack on the ships themselves, nor the shippers. It is simply my thoughts on the ship. That said - feel free to tell me if you disagree (or feel I was harsh).

In this essay, I'm going to focus on the two most popular Draco ships: Hermione/Draco and Harry/Draco. (Though I'm not sure if Hermione/Draco's as popular as it used to be).

The main problem with those two, in my opinion, is that they have both been hurt by Draco immensley.

According to Draco's current philosophy, Hermione is a no-good "Mudblood," with no-good parents. She shouldn't be allowed a wand - and perhaps not even allowed to exist.

Lily Potter, Harry's mother, was also supposedly a no-good "Mudblood", whose death was well deserved. She and James asked for it, and Draco has not hesitated to remind Harry of this now and then.

For Hermione/Draco, the counter-argument to that I often see is, "but he'll be redeemed!" With Harry/Draco, it's often "they work past that."

There are people who will work past that, yes. But again, two issues arise.

First, Hermione takes pride in who she is, and Harry's parents are the meaning of his life. They died to save him. So I don't think either of them are going to get over that, especially Harry. His parents are his world.And Hermione, while she doesn't seem particularly close with her parents, does seem to think highly of them. People who have stable relationships with their parents aren't going to date men who would gladly have witnessed their murders - even if they've "come clean." That's not something you'll forget.

Second, Hermione and Harry are two of the most unforgiving people we see in canon, except for Sirius and Snape. Harry pretty much stalked, and even nearly murdered (albeit on accident) Draco throughout HBP. Hermione, to her defense, didn't take part in the stalking, but she led Umbridge into the forest (which, while that was self defense, was still disturbing because of the lack of fear later. Nearly killing someone isn't something to shrug off, no matter what).

Even if Draco did redeem himself - and to be honest, after HBP I'm not sure he won't - he isn't going to ever be a nice person, and I definitely don't ever see him being forgiven enough by Harry and Hermione for a stable romance.

Really? Considering how lowly Draco thinks of Ron, do you really think he could let go of his "Blood Traitor" feelings for Ginny?

This is one ship I've had extreme difficulty with. First of all, they barely interact in canon, so I find the reason of they have so much chemisty baffling. Second, Draco has been proven in canon to hate the Weasley's, so I can't see that changing for Ginny. And third, I can't see Ginny willing becoming involved with Draco. Not just because of Harry, but because she seems to be rather black and white in thinking, rather like Harry is.

Sorry for the rant, but Draco and Ginny is one ship that just turns my stomach.

I don't think we can say what Ginny would do, she doesn't have a definate character in canon. We haven't really seen enough of her to have the faintest idea how she thinks or how she would act. That's one of the reasons I like reading about her, different authors have totally different interpretations that are all plausible.

As far as I recall:

OotP- Only notable things Ginny does are date two guys, join the DA, and tell Harry that he should have asked her about being possessed.
HBP- Ginny yells at her brothers for getting on her case about her love life, makes out with Dean Thomas in public, breaks up with Dean Thomas, goes out with Harry, and is "OMG so pretty and I really want to date her but Ron would get mad!!!!"

So yea, we have some very broad guidelines, but nothing really specific and from thos broad guidelines the character could go in a lot of different directions.

Lies convincingly to her mother about chucking dungbombs. Throws a tantrum about being sent upstairs because she's the youngest. Rolls butterbeer corks for Crookshanks to chase. Yells angrily when Kreacher calls Hermione a mudblood. Makes a noise like an angry cat when she hears about someone (Percy) badmouthing her father. Closes the evil music box when everyone else was entranced by it. Does a war dance with the twins when Harry avoids expulsion. Stands up for Neville. Giggle at Ron's reaction to Luna. Laughs at Malfoy when Harry calls him a git and tells him to git out. Alarms everyone with her accurate imitation of Umbridge. Practices Quidditch secretly behind her brothers' backs and then plays seeker well enough (despite preferring chaser) to snatch the snitch from under Summerby's and Cho's noses. Dumps Corner for being a poor sport. Sets up the twins' escape so that Harry could talk to Sirius. Demands to be involved in Harry's rescue of Sirius, first when they're trying to floo to Grimmauld Place and then again in the forest. Bat-bogey hexes Malfoy.

HBP- Ginny yells at her brothers for getting on her case about her love life, makes out with Dean Thomas in public, breaks up with Dean Thomas, goes out with Harry, and is "OMG so pretty and I really want to date her but Ron would get mad!!!!"

Annoyed at Fleur, makes up names for her, swishes around like a ballet dancer. Spends most of the summer playing Quidditch with the trio. Squees over pygmy puffs. Trips Ron in front of Fleur. Impresses Slughorn by bat-bogeying Zack Smith but clams up when he presses her for details on the Department of Mysteries. Is alarmed when she hears Harry has a mysterious magical book. Defends Demelza from Ron. Continues to play Quidditch well. Smashes into Zack Smith in retaliation for his negative commentary and then lies to McGonagall about it. Smirks at Ron and Lavender when they first get together and makes disparaging remarks about them to Harry. Stops two boys and her brother from teasing Luna. Decorates lavishly for Christmas. Picks a maggot out of Harry's hair. Claims credit for parsnipping Percy. Comforts her mother about Percy. Discusses Ron's poisoning obsessively with Harry and the twins. Is uninterested in Harry's excuse that he's almost late to the game because he met Malfoy. Visits Harry when he's unconscious in the hospital wing. Argued with Dean over Dean's making fun of Harry's injury. Doesn't want Dean's help through doors. Entertains the Quidditch team with her imitations of the other players. Is glad Harry had the sectumsempra spell to defend himself against Malfoy's unforgivable, snaps at Hermione about Quidditch. Makes fun of Romilda Vane for being more interested in Harry's chest than the ongoing Dementor attacks. Leads Harry away from Dumbledore's body. Calls Malfoy's Hand of Glory "that awful shriveled arm". Stops sleeping well after Dumbledore's death. Doesn't throw a tantrum when Harry breaks off their relationship; instead, talks about not giving up on him.

Er, isn't Ginny happy (or at least not sad about it) when Harry tells them that he almost killed Draco accidentally? If my memory doesn't betray me, I recall her being a bitch quite cruel about it, saying that draco got what he deserved. Or something among those lines.
