Who cares?

I knew they'd kill off Bert. But they did it in style. Not sure if I like, hate or am just confused by the musical ending though. I guess it IS Bert, and apparently Robert Morse was in that musical?

Peggy really needs a friend her age, but I felt for her.

Some people are saying we said goodbye to Megan for good... did we? I missed that. O_o She's said "goodbye" for good so many times now though, maybe I just didn't notice.

So we have to wait another year. I wish it were the fall, but I DO think the two parts worked out better - and maybe they needed to do that before, even. Seasons five and six were so choppy, and I think it was because they took plotlines like this, but threw them in with a zillion other plotlines, and it got disoriented. They also toned down the counterculture emphasis, which was good - don't get me wrong, I think they had to emphasize it a little, but one of the things that was originally so great about Mad Men was that it showed this other side of the 60's, which was probably closer to what most people experienced anyway, even if they weren't necessarily business people or WASP types.  Last season became a bit like Hair: WASP Style, which come to think of it could've just been done with the counterculture characters we already had, like Peggy's friend Joyce. (Whatever happened to her, anyway? Is Peggy just so past that world now?) Or Stan, because I can buy him dabbling. In any case, I read an article that even pointed out that we've already seen Hair-type scenarios in reference to the 60's, which was partly why the response for the last few seasons was so poor. This time around we got a bit of a balance.

Anyone else have thoughts?

I loved Bert's sendoff, but that's the kind of thing I love. It seemed to fit, as there haven't been any hallucinations or flashbacks this season yet that I recall. I don't think he ever sang that song in a show - he's famous (and likely on Mad Men) for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. It was just one of those hit parade, endlessly covered things.

Also glad they've toned down the counterculture. It always felt a bit to me like they included that because it was stereotypically 1960s, but the ways it was involved this season were more true to the characters.

Joan and Pete being pissed off together in the last meeting tickled me. Don't stand against them!
