I'm not even going to apologize for my rare public use of the f word. 

There is a death toll close to 30. Most of them children. Apparently the suspect wanted to kill his mother and her students, for one forsaken reason or another. And then he killed himself. And... and...

Who the fuck kills children? Who with a heart targets innocent kids that have no way of defending themselves?

I don't know what else to say, so I'll leave it at that.

Have you read The Gift of Fear? I think there's definitely value in the book.

In this case, posit someone who really wanted to hurt his mother. Her class of children was undoubtedly important to her, so he shot them much as someone else might break a favorite vase.

It seems like this should matter, but really it doesn't. To do this sort of thing, you need to see the people involved as objects. Once you have made that step, the ages and abilities of the people aren't important.

I think it was the shock value. He knew we'd all react the way we did. He deliberately targeted young children because he knew we'd hate it so much. And, yeah, he shot his own mother too. That tugs at many hearstrings, including mine.

He had no compassion for little kids, but he intellectually knew that most people do. Even the suicide was part of that. We don't get the satisfaction of a trial and conviction. Basically, he was sticking it to the whole world.

I sat and cried when I first got the news. Horror, grief etc. Also, the sickness that this twisted person had in his head... like you said, who kills innocent kids?

My kids are this age... My heart bleeds for the parents. You never recover form something like this.
