Yeah, it does seem much much quieter. I sorta figured maybe it was just that I still have mostly people who I friended because of harry Potter on my F'list, and the Harry Potter fandom has quieted own
But then I'm doing a lot more fannish posting on tumblr these days. LJ though still rules for personal stuff.
I think may simply be LJ doesn't interface to will with a smartphone, at least not compared to tumblr or twitter ^^
I've noticed it as well. I don't think - given the people I don't hear from as much anymore - that it's about drift to other platforms as much as drift off LJ/fandom in general.
I don't think it's just you. Maybe it's all the new platforms, or maybe people are too lazy to do something over 140 characters or a gif with a caption, or maybe I'm in the wrong fandoms/communities or maybe all the lj nerds are just too busy seeing The Hunger Games or whatever, but it does indeed seem like there's less going on than there used to be.
Exactly, it also feels like the circle of people staying on LJ is getting smaller and smaller. The biggest comm right now is The Mockingjay, and all the places on the "front page," are comms I am a member of.
I don't think too many are drifting to new platforms (except maybe Twitter) but that no big fandom is really up and coming right now (to the extent of other big fandoms.) And people seem to be addicted to that 100-150 word business lately. No one wants to sit down and really write a proper diary-style entry.
And it kind of amazes me with the big fandoms out there- Hunger Games, Walking Dead, and Girl with the Dragon Tat, that there's little fan involvement, fic/art, etc...
I think the big fandoms are attracting a younger generation, who isn't migrating to LJ, but to Twitter/Tumblr and Facebook. The folks who were here ten years ago for Buffy and Harry Potter have either evolved from journaling, or aren't getting into Hunger Games and The Walking Dead.
Also the fannish tide these days seems to be Sherlock. Many of the old school "fandom types," didn't like The Hunger Games, because it "wasn't well written," and aren't getting into The Walking Dead because of the sexism. And whatever fandoms these things have arent' on LJ.
Girl With The Dragon Tattoo doesn't seem to have much of a fandom.
I agree re: Twitter. I'm old and I don't have a lot of friends so I think it's kind of pointless for me. I guess I want more content than what is available in a Twit... Tweet, whatever.
Twitter is actually a bit more social than LJ, it doesn't have the structured community hierarchy/format, and can be easier to meet new people on by using the hashtags.
But I'm surprised that people don't link to their LJs from twitter, and get to know their twitter friends a bit better on LJ.
I've posted for the first time since November, so I'm guilty as charged, although I still read my flist every day. And yeah, even if it's quieter and it makes me regret the good old days where I had a hard time keeping up with my flist when I missed even a day, there's no way I'm moving the discussions I have here to another platform. What's the point of discussing a movie in 140 characters?
Most of the stuff I flow around here is Dragon Age stuff, and that fandom has become pretty quiet in general mostly due to a lack of new material that is worth anything.
Other then that, a lot of folks I know don't really post anything personal on the net anymore, and maybe that's why there is less around.
