(Please take this in good humor; also note that fandom doesn't necessarily mean fanfic exclusively).

The Highest Pillar. (Even non-readers/viewers know some, if not most of the plot/idea, because it's made known):

- Buffy the Vampire Slayer

- Harry Potter

- Lord of the Rings

- Anime

- Star Wars

- Star Trek

The Second Highest (Almost as known about as the former):

- Lost

- X-files

Third

- Dragonriders of Pern

- A Series of Unfortunate Events

We Are Too A Fandom, If Small

- Earth's Children (*Waves to EC people*)

Did you know that Anne McCaffrey absloutely forbids anytype of fanfic /roleplaying/ect except if it's under her guidelines? I was kind of supprised that she'd tell so many fans to cut it out, but Pern is her world to do with as she pleases. :D
She did set up some RPG and fan sites, so I suppose I can't complain.

Except she just gave permission for people to write fanfiction. And her entire fandom fainted.

:P

No, seriously, she did, with the caveat "no slash or pornography". I suspect that means "Not F'lar/F'nor, because, please, they're brothers" not no gay characters, because it is, in fact, very incredibly definitely canon that there are gay people on Pern. (Although I always wondered what lesbians who Impressed did. Sucks to be them, since there appear to be no girl bronze, brown, or blue riders.)

*faints*

*waves back* We ARE a fandom! With our own canon Mary Sue, in fact! (Said in good humor.)

I found out a fencing friend of mine was in fandom when I used the term Mary Sue in reference to that series and she knew what I meant...

LOL! The Earth's Children books are some of my favorites (because I am an anthropology/archeology nerd). Just goes to show that even a series with a blatant Mary Sue can still be enjoyable to read. Mary Sues can be fun. And, unlike some other Suevian authors I could name for example, Anne Rice Jean Auel is not a world-class wanker.

Nope - she doesn't actually like fanfiction, but she respects our right to read it anyway. There's things I don't like about her writing, but she's cool as an author, if not overly communicative (if that's a word).
