It's driving me mad

So I'm trying to find an AU Harry Potter fic I read, but I might be wrong. I'm going to describe it under a cut because this is public, not everyone has finished the books, and it involves spoilers of the massive kind. And for the record, this was one of those AU fics that actually works. It worked for me, at least.The fic involved Sirius and a change in the fifth book - that's all I'm saying outside of the cut.

Basically, in the AU Sirius survives the battle in the Ministry of Magic. The fanfic is a one shot, I believe, that shows him rebuilding his life, eventually becoming a wizarding lawyer.

I'm pretty sure someone on my flist wrote it, but I could be wrong. I think it was definitely a "Marauder writer" if nothing else. Something tells me that the fic was written either right before or right after the sixth book. It wasn't after the fifth book, despite that being when Sirius died, I know that. It may have been soon before the fifth movie. All I remember is how well written it was - it was what I like in an AU.

That's it! I had a feeling it was yours, but I couldn't find it on your LJ (and I looked everywhere for about an hour) - now I understand why, it was on a community. I'm usually not a big AU person but I liked how you did it. :)

One of these days, I really need to go back through my old entries and tag all the fic, except it feels so daunting to have to sift through six or seven years of LJ posts that I keep putting it off.

And I'm glad you enjoyed the fic enough to go looking for it!
