I know I already answered this, but I wanted to change my response.
I honestly don't think movies should be remade unless there's an actual reason to do so. I can see updating a film to make a point, or making an updated film a sequel of sorts. So using a similar premise, but rather than having a complete remake, make it an intentional parallel. But when it's just to say "hey, people can't appreciate older films so let's renew them", it's annoying and even a little patronizing to the audience.
