A user on a Dollhouse community suggested that if you skirted around a few small things, Dollhouse could be seen as a prequel to Fireflyverse. Ironically enough, I was thinking the same thing yesterday.

So, Dollhouse watchers: is it just us?

(Spoilers in the comments, obviously.)

Nope. That's been one of the plot bunnies I've been fighting for two years, before they'd even aired the pilot, because...well, it sounded like the prequel to Firefly. And honestly there's not anything you'd actually have to skirt around, because Firefly is 500 years later and, as we all know, history is written by the winners. Any "discrepancies" in the two plots could be (and actually make the most sense as being) something hidden by the higher ups, or just lost in the move from Earth or through time.

Even the loss and change of the technology in the two makes sense if you look at it from the standpoint of "Well, we know they did this, but they destroyed any trace of how, so lets figure it out for ourselves"

Yeah. I've put no thought into this. At all. Ever.

Exactly. And the fact that civilization itself seems to have started all over again on several planets, technology aside - I mean, even Persephone, which is supposedly one of the "advanced" societies, still has dueling and stuff.

Yeah, I've also thought this from the beginning. Between what was done to River Tam to make her a sleeper to the stuff they piped into the atmosphere on Miranda to try to make people "better", which caused the creation of Reavers (the equivalent of which in the two Epitaphs seems to be the "Butchers") it can definitely all read as a prequel to Firefly/Serenity, with the further development of the government being itself like a large, multi-planet Rossum Corporation.

I have this whole idea that the government originally formed to try and avoid Rossums of the future - you know, they told people if there was a government controlling the entire world that would eventually move to space, nothing like what happened would occur again. And yet, they became exactly what they said they were against.

River seems very much like a sleeper. You could even compare Mellie's going crazy when she hears "there are three flowers in a vase... one of them is yellow" (or something) to River's going crazy when she mutters "Miranda."

Cool idea!

I like what everyone here is saying about the technological regression/avoidance. Plus, there is the Chinese thing.

In Epitaph One, didn't they imply several times that it was the Chinese who first used the mind-wiping tech as a weapon of mass destruction? So if the Chinese harnessed that powerful tech, and the Americans destroyed it, wouldn't that leave China and America as the last great superpowers?

That's why everyone lives as frontier cowboys and cusses in Chinese!

before I saw the finale, I would have said "meh, I don't see it" however now...yeah, I totally see how we would get from point A to B. Nicely done!
