[livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen . Go now - so far, there's a little bit for everyone. Luna fic, Neville fic, a Marauder comic strip, Teddy Lupin fic, Snape fic, and even a Merope Gaunt fanfic. There might be even more as I type this.

I've always been a genfic person. It's not that I don't like romance... although I do sometimes have issues with how it's written in fandom. Ships that I dislike don't grab my interest, and when I read ships that I love, I find that I often nitpick to myself. I love Harry/Ginny, but I don't usually like fics where they kiss and make up right after the final battle. I love Ron/Hermione, but I feel like Ron's often too sentimental. I love(d?) Remus/Tonks, but the Tonks in fics often didn't ring true for me. That can happen to an extent with genfic, of course, but it doesn't seem to happen as much.

Onto other things... it really does amuse me to no end that we spent all these years debating which characters were gay, and nobody ever considered Dumbledore. (At least not to my knowledge. Does anyone know of fans or a fan even who seriously thought that he was?)

I do hope that JK Rowling writes something else for her 'verse someday. Maybe a little more adult - along the lines of HBP and TDH, as opposed to PS/SS. (Although that might be a bit hard with all the kid fans, but think most of the "kid fans" are now at least fifteen anyway.)

Lastly, I have a confession to make. Remember how right before TDH, I was asking for fan-related pictures and stuff? Well, I was going to build a site dedicated to fandom that would be just before TDH. However, between all the spoiler  trolls ruining the mood and my own summer plans... I decided not to do it. As far as Harry Potter fandom is concerned, it's one of my regrets. I know I made a thank you, etc post the night before, but... I should have tried harder. It was just hard, with all the drama going on, for me to be enthused. (And as I said, I was also quite busy anyway.)

For the record...I did suspect Dumbledore to be gay while reading GoF. Not sure what point exactly...but you said "anyone know a fan" and I am one...so I guess me :)

Interesting! I just never thought of him as gay. But it makes sense to me now.

Yes. This is what made me stop reading R/Hr fic years ago - anything centered on them, it seemed like, had Ron ruminating on how beautiful Hermione's hair and lips were.

*Snerk* Yeah, exactly. Harry/Ginny fics tend to get like that too. It's just not who Harry or Ron are. They'd both of course be good boyfriends/husbands, but sentimental? No.

I thought there was something between D. and G. when I read DH, but not before. Before I didn't think about his love life before.

There's two funny relaxed fics added to the Springgen archive.

New kids are added to fandom all the time. My eight year old niece has just started to read Philosopher's stone. Kids books have a very long life span. New children will probably be reading them all the time.

I love genfic, too! Thanks for the link, will definitely check this out.

I don't think anyone considered Dumbledore because he was OLD and therefore he wasn't eligible for hot male sex. I do remember a few people wondering if he and McGonagall for a couple and Mike Newell trying to hint at that with the Yule Ball when they go out to dance, but Jo probably decided that was fine.

All I know is, that somewhere on the Internet some slash fan had written copious Dumbledore/Grindelwald slash before DH, and withstood the scorn of the world. And that fan had a moment of transporting glee and sweet vindication while reading DH.
