[Error: unknown template qotd]They exist, they're just... er, being hidden from normal people by wizards/Sam and Dean/The Company/The Alliance/insert your fantasy fandom of choice here. ;)

I do think that they have a logical basis. I think a few things need to be considered when one notes that cultures often have similar legends about these creatures:

- Extinct species from very ancient times, not yet discovered by humans but around late enough for stories to be told by generations, certain facts being twisted and changed.

- On a similar note, fossils. Some guy finds a fossil of a huge dinosaur with wings. Another finds a similar one. Even though they live on completely different continents, they come to a similar conclusion: huge flying creatures once existed.

- Stories are passed back and forth. People don't always keep in mind that ever since man jumped off that great tree branch, he has wandered. A tribe from, say, Russia may have gone to China, bringing their tales of the great flying creatures and a creature much like the Yeti. Then descendants of those people went to Siberia. Then their descendants went to North America. So even though it seems illogical that a Native tribe in Canada has an eerily similar legend as people in Ancient Russia did , it makes sense when you keep in mind that legends carry.

- Of course, maybe these creatures do exist, and mankind is just too narrow minded to consider it. ;)

(And yes, I realize this isn't exactly what the question was asking...)
