I was talking to linda_lupos about how I hadn't been as excited about TDH as I'd wanted to be, and partly blamed the spoiler trolls.

And I'm really morbidly curious - did anyone ever find out who exactly was posting the spoilers? Was it fandomers, well meaning twelve year olds a few marbles short, an eighteen year old college frosh on drugs...?

Also, I want to know what the text image was people were apparently posting. It must've been spoilery enough to be upsetting.

(Yes, I know it's been half a year. I'm still curious.)

If I remember correctly, the text image was a page from the epilogue. So many people thought it was a fake because of the name "Albus Serverus." :P

Someone posted spoilers to [livejournal.com profile] honestlyronald, but I just chose to consider it fake until the book proved otherwise. But then a friend leafed through the book and exclamed ''Oh my God, Harry Potter has kids!'' I wasn't happy with her at that moment.:P

I don't know exactly what any of the spoilers were because I wouldn't go to any HP related sites (other than SQ) in the week or so leading up to DH. Oh, paranoia. A co-worker of mine was reading the scanned version online and kept threatening to spoil me, but thankfully my angry glares convinced him it was a very bad idea.

Yes, the whole book (American version)was scanned. I read parts of it, including the crap...sorry epilogue and wasn't impressed, and reading the whole book didn't change that, I'm afraid.

I have no idea who did it, and I have no idea if they were found out. If the were, I'd suggest they take the Steve Vander Ark approach: we worked so HARD on this, we should be entitled! ;-)

I made very sure that I did not visit any sites other than SQ and my other home site in the weeks leading up to DH. I heard about the spoilers that had been posted but unlike HBP, I never saw them, so they didn't affect me. Still didn't stop me going "O.o" when I read the epilogue and the names though. *lol*

There's actually a lot of people who aren't even into HP who would gladly spoil it for anyone, just for the lulz.

While I would *hate* it if I were spoiled, I can understand why it would be funny if you didn't read HP or care about it at all.

The spoiler posted on the SQ LJ community was large text saying SNAPE DIES ON PAGE (Something) and then a screenshot of the page. Then below that, in large, multicolored font, it gave a list of deaths.

It left a couple deaths out, and included a character that survived the book, so it wasn't entirely accurate, but it was close enough to make me upset.

No idea... I avoided HP sites like the plague in the weeks leading up to release.

The whole thing broke on 4Chan, I heard, which makes sense as that site is full of the jerkiest meme-slaves ever to infest the Internet. They're also the reason my new fandom (Death Note) has practically no chance of being left unspoiled for the Adult Swim watchers. If it is capable of a) being an image macro and b) pissing people off, rest assured that someone on 4Chan has devised it.

You know, that doesn't surprise me, and I don't even know that much about 4Chan.
