Finally - amusing TDH reactions!!!

I finally typed up my TDH reactions (ETA: by that I mean, chapter by chapter commentary) - a month late, but nonetheless. It's only until chapter fifteen because I realized it was too distracting, and much was edited out because I did write a lot of things like "LOL" that make absolutely no sense out of context. But here it is - some of it is quite amusing, actually!

(Oh, and there's also some inside jokes. Feel free to ask for explanations any time.)

Book Seven Reactions: Chapters 1-15*

Pre-Reading Notes Part I

In five minutes, I will be going to Barnes and Noble to get it.

 

Crap. Am ready but not so ready.

 

What if I don’t like it? What if it sucks? I’ve heard

some people didn’t like it, but heard others loved it.

 

One thing is for sure: I’ll need to ask Mom where the Sangria is, because I have a feeling I’ll be needing it.

 

Guh.

 

Remus, if you die in this one, inner Artemis will be screaming. Same for you, Tonks. So don’t get killed off on me, got it?

Pre-Reading Notes Part II

 

Have it. Had to do shopping on the way home, but am home.

 

I love that the inside cover just says “we now present the seventh installment.” Evil! Yet kind of nice too.

You know, I kind of like this Voldemort. He seems less cartoonish, for once.

Chapter Two: In Memoriam

 

Ooh yeah, huge hint there – RAB is Regulus.

Hm. He said in PS/SS that he saw socks in the Mirror of Erised – I wonder if that relates to his sister? Maybe he used to buy her socks?

Chapter Four: The Seven Potters

 

Ooh, the title makes me hopeful. (Note: I had thought it referred to Harry’s descendants or something.)

Yay! We’ll meet Andromeda? Hm, maybe she’ll mention RAB…

 

Ha! Ron, Remus is too guilty to be jealous of you riding with Tonks. I think.

 

Oh no- Hedwig! Poor Hedwig!

 

Oh shit, Stan’s an inferi! Evil, evil…

 

No… not Hagrid. Crap.

 

Chapter Five: Fallen Warriors

 

Oh, Hagrid’s okay. Thanks a lot, JKR, ten years of my life lost for nothing.

 

Aw, Ted calls Tonks Dora! Squee!

 

Hm. Andromeda looks like Bellatrix…

 

Dromeda?!

 

Oh god – poor George. Okay, so losing an ear is quite random, but still.

 

Poor Remus. Even if that was a tad harsh, he must be terrified for Tonks.

 

Snape…. Hexed George… yee. I have no idea what to think about that.

 

Ron and Tonks… don’t let them be dead. Please. Oh, thank God, they’re alive.

 

Oh, Moody’s dead.

 

Voldemort’s in Harry’s head again? That could complicate things.

 

Chapter Six: The Ghoul in Pajamas

 

(In response to the chapter title): … wtf?

 

I can sort of see Molly’s point. Why won’t Harry at least tell Remus, if no one else?

 

Aw, poor Hermione, her parents don’t even know who she is. Man.

 

Okay, Molly’s got to be kidding me. Bill and Fleur have separate bedrooms?

 

Chapter Seven: The Will of Albus Dumbledore

 

Aw, Harry and Ginny are touching in the illustration!

 

Er.. kissing her is better than firewhiskey?? This is

almost as bad as the chest monster of sixth year. But sweet in a way, I suppose.

 

Okay, the kiss ended adruptly. I sort of see Ron’s point though – at least compromise with a happy medium, Harry.

 

Damn it, Remus, what is with you, being curt with Harry?

 

You know, Dumbledore should’ve known better than to leave that with the Ministry, because of course Harry would be questioned. Why not just leave it with Molly or someone else in the Order?

 

“I open at the close”… what does that mean? Strange.

 

Oh, how cute, wizarding children’s stories! LOL,

“Cinderella” actually does sound like an illness.

 

Chapter Eight: The Wedding

(In response to the illustration): “OMG, is that a werewolf?!” (That’s what I’d thought Kingsley’s lynx patronus was. Because I’m paranoid.)

 

Okay, seriously Remus, what’s going on? I’m a tad nervous.

 

Ooh, the Lovegoods!

 

Hermione with sleek hair? *Sigh.*

 

Uh oh, Viktor. Ron’ll be tense… yup.

 

Ooh, Grindlewald also had a mark! And Luna’s dad… huh.

 

LOL at Harry’s “Ginny’s boyfriend is a seriously big bloke.”

 

… Ariana was a Squib? ^^ Okay, maybe not a Squib, but the irony is still delicious.

 

Okay, something funny is going on here. I don’t think Dumbledore is evil, per se, but there’s possibly more to this than simple rumors.

 

And oh, the “wolf” in the picture is a Lynx Patronus –

OMG!!!!!!

 

Chapter Nine: Shit Shit Shit A Place to Hide

 

So is Moody alive?!

 

… maybe not. Darn.

 

Okay, I like Harry/Ginny, but Harry is thinking only of her? Not about anyone else at the party – just “I hope Ginny’s okay”? What about Molly, his mother figure? Fred and George? Geez!

 

Chapter Ten: Kreacher’s Tale

 

(Yet another illustration response, a drawing of MWPP together): Eee! The Marauders!

 

… except isn’t that a full moon in the background? Why is Remus just standing there?!

 

Bikini clad muggle girls… Sirius had his priorities straight. I wonder how Neitya felt?

 

So Sirius hadn’t seen James and Lily for a while, but Peter and Bathilda had? Weird.

 

And it is confirmed – RAB is Regulus! W00t! (Though what took them so long? All of fandom had it figured out within fifteen seconds.)

 

… whoa. Quite the backstory on Regulus.

 

Chapter Eleven: The Bribe

 

Oh, thank God, Remus seeming quite normal for the first time in this book.

 

Okay, Death Eaters in full control. Not good. And aii, poor Tonks’s parents.

 

Poor muggle kids! The only thing is, aren’t most wizards half-blood? You’d think they wouldn’t fall for it.

 

Aww, Lupinlet on the way!

 

Ted and Andromeda are ashamed of Remus? I hope that’s just Remus being Remus.

 

… Remus, didn’t you and Tonks already go over this?! This is NOT the time to be having a second round of

second thoughts, when she’s pregnant!

 

… wtf, Harry? Okay, Harry, seriously – shut up.

Remus throwing Harry across the room? That seems so… Snape-ish. Moony, what’s gotten into you? Come baaaack. L

 

 Ariana’s Mum had jet black hair. At least her name wasn’t Tabitha.

Chapter Twelve: Magic is Might

 

Snape as Headmaster… not good. Or maybe it is good…?

 

Ooh, Mafalda… heh, she’s middle aged, not in her twenties. Oh well, I took her out of my ficverse anyway. (I used to have her as someone who went to school with Tonks, but she was obviously a manifestation of the girls I hated in high school.)

 

Needless to say, the NEW Ministry Statue is worse, though perhaps not by much.

 

“Marry a pureblood next time” – ugh.

 

Oh shit, I just realized – Ted Tonks! Dean! Lavender!

 

Chapter Thirteen: Primatech Paper The Muggle-born Registration Commission

 

Oy, Moody’s Eye.

 

Eek, Mr. Weasley threatening Harry. Not that I blame him, but awkward for Harry. And why does the name “Dirk Cresswell” bug me?

 

Oh man, Mrs. Cattermole!

 

Chapter Fourteen: The Thief

 

Back to Hogwarts? That’s… dangerous.

 

Ooh, and to the Quidditch tournament spot! The tents! Neat twist.

 

I’m sort of glad to see Harry all concerned about Kreacher, for once. I think I like him in this overall, other than attacking Remus. (Plus, with that one, both were at fault.)

 

Harry needs to realize that he needs to start controlling his mind somehow. Remus could probably have helped, but they both blew it there.

 

Peter – was the thief Peter?

 

Chapter Fifteen: The Goblin’s Revenge

 

Harry can’t do a patronus anymore? Not good.

 

The Horcrux is starting to remind me of LOTR.

 

Really getting sick of Ron complaining about Harry saying “Voldemort.”

 

Oh yes, just forget Hogwarts… Voldie totally wouldn’t pick one of the HUGE PLACES in the magical world to hide a Horcrux!

 

Ted! And Dean! They’re alive!

 

Hm, Ginny tried stealing the sword! Probably with Neville and Luna… yup. Go them!

 

Snape… sent them to Hagrid as a punishment? Okay, questioning his side. Again. 87 times and I’m only halfway through.

Yeah, but honestly, as fun as it was, it was way too distracting, so it's not for everyone. I enjoyed doing it for the chapters I did - part of me wishes I'd kept on doing it, but it got too hard.

Hehe, yeah, I'm not sure what did take them that long, except possibly that they don't think about the House of Black with the frequency fandom does. But even then, you'd think they'd go "Okay, Sirius's last initial was B... his family head Death Eaters..."
