Apparently I've not been in the fandom long enough. I recognize some stuff from things I've heard, but most don't apply.

Is this related to GoF and the graveyard scene?

Also: with me it's Sirius's daughter, so I count it, and that brings me to ... 16/25 (it was the "remember when these began" that tripped me up - I've never been big in the communities, unfortunately. In fandom as in life!). I also counted 20, because the fact that I stopped growing at about twelve doesn't count.

Thisi s great!

Heh...I became an avid fan before the fourth book, but I didn't enter fandom until a year before the fifth (so 25 applies). But it was in a rather...stunted sect of fandom, so alas, I don't recognize many of these. But I know 9, 10, 12, 14, 17 (I didn't go, but I remember it) - I remember 18 - I dunno if I've grown three inches in five years, since I was thirteen, I might have. YES 22. AND 23. Mwah. Thank you!

Yeah, I do realize my list doesn't apply everywhere - fandom is so huge, after all. But I've tried. :)

4. You think the Switchblade Kittens rule.

Yeah, the Switchblade Kittens rule! :)

5.B. You hated the Mary Sue Litmus Test.

Blergh.

6. You remember the launching of FictionAlley, Sugar Quill, Gryffindor Tower, and/or HP4GU.

What about two out of four? I was part of FA's launch and remember GT being announced, but I was a few months late for SQ and over a year late for HP4GU.

9. You're still insisting that the Order of the Phoenix is an award, not the name of a defense team.

It's not? ;) (Is this one my fault, because of PS? Or did others do this too?)

10. You remember when ff.n was THE fanfic site to post on!

Getting in the waaaayback machine now...

11. You believe that if Draco were only hexed into a rat, he would become so loveable.

Well, I didn't believe it, but I know which fic this refers to. ;)

12. You know that Polyjuice Potion testing in class can only lead to body - and, in some cases, species - switching gone awry.

Well, I never bought this idea either, but I know many who did.

16. You're a proud member of PISA.

Not sure what this is. What about PINE? (Percy Is Not Evil!)

17. Nimbus 2003 feels like yesterday.

Yup.

18. Sirius having a sister is the coolest idea ever. Even though your friends still rant about said sisters.

Well, I don't know about "coolest idea ever", but what about TWO sisters (which I gave him). Pretty cool, anyway?

20. You've grown three inches and a gray hair since you read your first fanfic.

Don't get me started... And it's a lot more gray hairs than ONE.

21. You've shrunk three inches and lost a gray hair since you read your first fanfic.

Ha! No, I'm not getting shorter yet. I'm short enough already.

22. You bought Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages when they were first released.

Sure did. In hardback, in a boxed set. :)

23. You know what "the wand order error" means. Or at least think you do.

I certainly do know! And I liked the original, incorrect version better, too.

24. You remember when Sirius took Harry into his (wonderful) home to live.

You mean the ruined castle on Loch Ascog that I gave the Blacks or something else?

25. You still tell people, "I can't wait for book five!"

Well, I don't tell anyone that anymore, but I remember it vividly. :D

So I've got 12.5 or so, about half. Not too bad. Guess I get to hang around fandom a little longer. ;)

Re: #9, I don't think it was your fault. There were a lot of people who insisted that The Order was along the lines of The Order of Merlin, including people who didn't even read fanfic. *Shrugs*

For the sites, two out of four works. Heck, I was only vaguely aware of any of them until after they'd been launched, and I only really went to them regularly in 2002. (I was a ff.n person until that point.)

They were actually 2000 people - EDS and TF were still writing fic in 2001, but not Mena Baines... I believe she actually wrote back in 99.

Don't feel bad though, I was in fandom during MsScribe and had no idea my fandom was wanking itself to death.

Well, how long have you been in fandom? Plus, these aren't all going to apply to everyone. And a lot of these things are things that took place in 1999-2001.

And a lot of these are things I know more about than I experienced myself. I read the first edition of GoF, and yet, didn't even notice the Wand Order mistake. And I knew about Harry's schoolbooks, but didn't actually buy them until I realized everyone and their brother used them for fanfic reference.

Yeah, I figured it won't apply to everyone. At least not those who are not active in fandom. Like me. :)

I only bought Harry's school books because they were going at $3 per pack, and I got two (one for my friend in Finland haha).

I am a fandom lurker. Your description of FFN being THE spot for fic and your mentions of Maya's fic and Mena Baines and Eliza Diawna Snape made me really nostalgic...

I followed the MsScribe affair last year, and it was a fascinating trip into the past. I had no idea that there was so much drama around the launching of FA etc.

Now I wonder about all those unknown names and events... Who was Cairnsy? Who or what was Icicle? etc...
