People I said I'd write drabbles for: For some reason, my inspiration plain died. I will write them. Promise. Just not right away.

I really hate when I send private messages to people on messageboards asking questions, and they never reply. So I have a question about one in particular.

As I've been saying for ages, I work on Pen n Paper. Well, a few weeks ago, I asked someone who runs a pretty popular site (it's appeared in magazine and newspaper articles) how she got it to be so popular. She apparently read the PM that same day, but never responded to it, and now I'm worried maybe it was too forward of me to ask. I didn't mean to sound like I was trying to compete, because I'm not - the site is completely different, for starters. But is it possible it still offended her?

And in general - when do you guys send PMs? Reply to them?

(As an off note - have I been plugging and talking about Pen n Paper too much?)

I'm pretty much at sea about the whole internet etiquette thing. To me, it seems rude no to answer a PM, and I don't see anything wrong with what you wrote to her. But, I don't know, maybe she gets hundred of PM's a day? Maybe she gets asked that question all the time and is sick of it? Maybe she's just an ignorant bitch?

What is Pen and Paper?

I'm sorry she didn't respond. I know how you feel.

Oh, and please don't worry about the drabble. It was a nice offer, but if the muse is sleeping, you've got to let her rest.

No, I want to do the drabble! Really! I just have an odd muse.

Pen n Paper is a site my friend and I have, where we host original writing.

As for the PM, you're probably right that she gets asked that all the time. Hadn't really thought of that, but now that I think of it, it's more than possible. She's definitely not an ignorant person, though maybe she is admittedly a bit... proud. But still, I don't think she didn't answer my email just to be rude or anything.

No, I don't think you've been plugging it too much. You're probably over-thinking the PM, though. I know that I'm often too busy and forgetful to answer things, and then once it's been a while I get embarrased so I avoid it even more. Someone who's running a site would be even busier, so she probably just forgot. Don't worry about it.

I feel bad because I'm horrible at replying to things. I know I took forever to reply to your latest PM. =)

And I don't think you plug Pen n Paper too much. I only heard about it from you when it first opened, I think, and when you PMed me.

It doesn't seem to me like you were too forward -- maybe she gets asked that all the time, though. *shrug*

And I don't think you've been plugging/obsessing! At least... If you have, I should basically not talk at all, because everything that comes out of my mouth is obsessive. XP

*hugs*

Sometimes if I get a message (be it e-mail, LJ comment, whatever) I'll read it, but don't respond immediately if it's not urgent or if it requires more thought or something.

Maybe she's just thinking about how to respond?

I usually answer my PMs right away but sometimes some fall through the cracks. It's usually when I have to put a lot of thought and work into an answer, or I just don't want to answer it just then. She probably just didn't have an easy answer right when she got it - I mean, really, how do you answer something like that? Takes a bit of thought and a long recitation of the history of the projects and all it boils down to is, "it just happened with luck and hard work".
