Fandom Snowflake Challenge #1
Jan. 1st, 2020 09:11 pm In your own space, introduce yourself! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I don't talk too much about myself in public spaces - I could've flocked this, but then I wouldn't have been able to share it with other Snowflake participants, and that defeats the whole purpose! I will say that I am a woman in my thirties who lives in the US.
I've been involved in internet fandoms for almost 20 years now, although really, I've always been a very fannish person. I'm also a writer with a vivid imagination, which must play into it.
I decided to do a bit of a fannish twist on an intro, since this is a fannish challenge. Basically, I'm going to list a few books/shows and name characters I am most like. Behind a cut since I know fannish stuff isn't everyone's thing.
Harry Potter: Definitely a combination of Luna, Hermione and Remus. I have a lot of Luna's head-in-the-clouds tendencies, Hermione's desire to right wrongs - occasionally in the worst possible way, and Remus's desire to keep the peace, as well as his self-deprecation regarding certain issues (often to the discomfort of others).
Parks and Rec: I'm probably closest to Ben Wyatt. Super nerdy but not in an overt "obvious" way until you get to know me, and I can either be way too lenient or way too harsh under pressure.
Buffy: I'm not sure about myself as an adult or the characters as adults, but high school Willow was very much me in high school, minus the hacker stuff. Right down to the way season one Willow dressed. I actually had the same hairdo.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: I can be a bit like Paula when it comes to my family and friends. I've had to be reminded that boundaries are a thing before. I think that's as far as I would go, though.
Looking forward to seeing everyone else's responses, and hoping to meet some new people! Welcome!

Date: 2020-01-02 01:47 pm (UTC)I totally agree with your statement about her desure to right wrongs, sometimes in all the wrong ways!
For me, one of the things I love about Hermione is her resolvedness (not a word but lets pretend it is). How she is very all in once she decides she is doing, sometimes even to her own detriment - and if you cross her path for something she's dedicated to, you may be in for a world of pain.

As a writer it's truly something I love exploring(and also admitting the flaws, making reparations for the things they've done!).

Date: 2020-01-03 09:18 pm (UTC)The Harry Potter characters are a really interesting mix! To me, what stands out is that all the traits you picked from those characters can be both strengths and weaknesses. Luna's a brilliant thinker because of how she approaches everything from an unconventional perspective, but she's ostracised for it, too. Hermione's resolve speaks for itself aha - she can be her own worse enemy, but when she's got it right, she does whatever she's set her mind to brilliantly. And Remus, ah, Remus... He has so much depth, I loved reading the books for the first time after watching the movies and realising how much there was to him I didn't know about before. I think he's a very good mediator, but that can also mean he can be too passive or not act until it's too late. And same thing with his self-deprecation; with everything he had to deal with, I imagine it became much of a coping mechanism in the face of that pain, but like you said it can also come at the cost of making those who don't give him a hard time uncomfortable.
Sorry, I went on a whole tangent. \o/
