Well, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend ended. I actually don't have a lot of thoughts, which is weird because normally I have ALL the thoughts. I'll share some, though. Under a cut for spoilers.

I was mostly satisfied with the ending. For a second I was really scared they'd gone with Josh, but they avoided that. *Whew* Although I DO think that Rebecca and Josh actually could have worked if they'd had Josh's character grow more. I re-watched some season one episodes a while ago, and Rebecca is almost a different person now. I think Josh is very much the same person, in contrast, so that Rebecca being with him would be a regression.

Aline has suggested that Greg could still be endgame in the future. I got thinking about Greg (as a completely neutral non-shipper). It struck me that Rebecca has always looked up to Greg. I don't think this means that he's the "real" endgame, although I don't think he's completely off the table either. I do think that he was the closest thing to a true relationship. Josh was the high school dream, the cute guy at camp you looked up at the stars with; Nathaniel was the young adult dream man, the shadowy figure in the door who's dark and alluring. Greg was a taste of what a relationship really entails, from start to finish: Watching the Dog Show on Thanksgiving, figuring out the very awkward stuff (although seriously, never bang your ex boyfriend's dad), and finding yourself at the car shop because your car broke down. Greg as a character may be that person for Rebecca. He may also not be. Either way, that's what Rebecca needs, whether it's with Greg or someone else down the line.

Meanwhile, there's some criticism that the show is saying characters with mental health issues can't be in relationships. I don't take it that way at all. If anything, I think Rebecca made it quite clear that she IS ready. We just don't see it because that wasn't the journey we were following.

I also liked seeing where the other characters ended up. Nathaniel went to the zoo. Paula was GREAT - although I wish we'd seen her efforts at work, I loved that she stood up for herself and got rewarded for it. Poor WhiJo really is the Jerry/Larry/Terry/Gary Gergich of the show, isn't he? Except even Gary got to be the Mayor of Pawnee. Huh. Well, who's to say Josh Wilson won't be the next mayor of West Covina? Those nutrition bars were a hit. However, I wish we'd gotten one last group number.

I'm sad the show is over, but eager to see what Rachel Bloom does next. In the meantime, any fanfic recs?

I loved Nathaniel at the zoo, and Paula! White Josh kind of is the Jerry, but the show feels more aware of the fact that it's an unfair way for someone to be treated/regarded.
