Controversy, anyone?

Okay, due to the fact that this poll seems to have caused a lot of wank, I'm going to say a few things.
I never, ever meant to offend anyone by not including their ship. I tried to include both popular and less shipped ships. The ticky box option, too, was not supposed to be offensive or patronizing. It was meant to be funny.
That said, I realize my poll has a lot of flaws. The main one is that in reality, "shipping" in fandom is extremely broad, because everyone has different definitions.
Personally, I don't think Harry/Ginny is currently canon. I'm not saying it wasn't before - come on, they even said they loved one another - and honestly, my personal view is that if Harry lives through book seven, they will be canon again. But as of now, they are not together. And I say this as someone who, while not a huge H/G shipper, does think the ship is cute.
James and Lily are dead, yes. But they never broke up, so they are still technically together.
Hermione/Ron and Remus/Tonks showed signs of love, expressed love, and JKR said "they are together."
At least, this was my reasoning.
Clearly, others don't see it the same way. And you know what? That's perfectly fine.
I'm not going to close the poll, nor the comments, but I do ask that you realize something: I am now very well aware of the flaws. And I apologize for them.
As for not including all the pairings... as I said, I just wanted to have a variety of ships. So I included pairings a lot of fandom ships, and pairings not everyone does. I had limited poll space. That's why I included an "other" option.
I'm sorry the poll had flaws. Really.

Date: 2006-02-01 01:53 pm (UTC)Harry and Ginny was in a relationship. They were dating, yes, but everything Harry said about her made one to believe that yes, they are in a relationship. So whether they "broke up" or just "seperate" in HBP, the fact still remains that they were together. Jo made them together therefore, it is canon.
That is how I'd see it anyway. As far as I know, as long as it is stated in the book that these characters were in a relationship, it is canon. Even though Ron and Hermione were said to be together, I don't think they are canon... yet. :)

Date: 2006-02-01 04:48 pm (UTC)And I'm not stressing - I'm actually quite amused that all one has to do is start a poll, and boom, shipwar!

Date: 2006-02-01 05:38 pm (UTC)Anyway, I don't think making f_w is always a bad thing, for you at least. It was pretty clear they were just pointing out an over-the-top reaction to a simple poll.
In other words, not your fault, and keep coming at us with polls because ticky boxes are joy. :P

Date: 2006-02-01 09:31 pm (UTC)I don't necessarily agree with you about H/G -- I'm off the opinion that as long as the feelings are mutual, the ship is canon -- but everyone was just overreacting.
Although, I'm still not sure how f_w posters seem to think "H/G shippers put up with a lot" (or something along those lines) is quite the same as the H/Hr claims of oppression. ;)
