I also liked Monica/Chandler a lot more than I did Ross/Rachel. Maybe it's because I watched it long after it aired, so there was less of the extended suspense of the will they-won't they element, but I just found them so annoying. As you said, Monica and Chandler had a better relationship all around, and one that was grounded in a really strong friendship that I appreciated a lot.
