Wow, there's a fandom with AUs? Should check out. But I have heard the book makes it a bit more plausible - apparently Lily actually almost dies, and Andy actually has something to lose. That I can get behind. And to be fair, there is a side problem of novel to film here, since films have to cut out so much.
I know she wouldn't get a recommendation, but I may have missed the part about her not getting a job if she quit. before a year. Good point with the phone thing though... and I guess even IRL, that's true; one time I tried ignoring my bosses calls, so she just kept calling until I knew it'd be obvious I was blowing her off. (To be fair, that was unprofessional on my part.) Even when you work for a small business like I do, you sometimes have to bring work home.
UB only got weird with the lack of support in later seasons, and possibly just that string of episodes - it's been a while. I think the only one who really initially raised a stink (beyond calling to ask where Betty was and the like) was Walter, and in that case Betty was blowing him off a little, so I think the point there was less that Betty Lost Herself and more that they were very different people. I think I'll marathon myself. :)
