I am joining you in the reread. Or re-listen, actually, since I'm using the audiobook. ;)
I first read HP in the summer of '03--I read the first five books in one week, then re-read them much more slowly. Then I listened to the audiobooks with my husband and got to see his reactions. I re-read the entire series before DH came out, and on that re-read, I was the same age as the Marauders in POA when we meet them, so I really related.
I am always horrified by the Dursley's treatment of both Harry and Dudley. Although two different extremes both are abusive and not the way to raise children.
As for Harry's losing control of his magic with Aunt Marge, I always thought it was just that--he was SO angry he accidentally caused something to happen, sort of like if a ten-year-old began wetting the bed after the loss of a parent. Regression in the midst of extreme emotional trauma is not uncommon, and Aunt Marge would traumatize anyone.
Hagrid's crazy, but I love him anyway. ;)
On the sneakascope issue, I wonder if they existed when the Marauders were in school? Or if James thought like Bill that they were "junk for tourists" and wouldn't have purchased one. I also see James as someone who trusted his friends completely, and never thought any of them would betray him. Unfortunately, he was wrong and it cost him his life.
