Random 80's/90's Kid Nostalgia Post
Feb. 3rd, 2013 01:21 pm1. Was I the only one who read Sweet Valley Twins but had no interest in Sweet Valley High or Valley University?
1bruce1makes me kind of glad I never did, though I do wonder why my friend loved SVH (though she hated SVU). I mean, they don't sound like they're for kids, unless the comm just goes with the adult interpretation of all the crazy shit that happened, and the actual version in the books was more clean-cut?
2. I'm not ashamed to admit I loved Full House, although eventually the Olsen twins started to creep me out. I'm sorry, but I always knew they were going to be screwed up later in life. I think it's actually kind of sad. No wonder they blew off the reunion party.
3. Things I never understood: Beanie Babies, Titanic (I find Leo DiCaprio more attractive now) or the Backstreet Boys.
4. Things I missed either because I was born smack in the middle of two decades or just because I was a nerd who mostly read books and played computer gameswow some things never change: The Goonies, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, most of John Hughes though I did see a chunk of Ferris Bueller when I was seven or eight. My teacher turned the TV off when the dog was knocked unconcious.
5. It both horrifies and entertains me to imagine they'll have a Period Drama about the 90's someday.

Date: 2013-02-03 06:52 pm (UTC)I did understand Titanic though, although because of Leo (he's pretty enough but I'm not attracted to him) Love that film.
I saw Bill and Ted terribly late on - I missed most things that were in theory "the big things" when I was young. I regularly leave people going "HOW HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THAT FILM?" when we talk about films.

Date: 2013-02-03 07:25 pm (UTC)The Titanic came out when I was in college. I was unaffected about Leo, till the captain died and then cried buckets because my dad's a captain too. lol!
I remember The Goonies well. :))

Date: 2013-02-03 09:24 pm (UTC)I saw The Goonies when I was in high school, and was the only one who hadn't seen it as a kid, so I was unimpressed while even the most cynical girl in the class was engrossed. (We watched movies on Fridays in Study Hall. Which was probably missing the entire point of study hall.)

3. I <3 Beanie Babies, but am with you on the other two, especially Titanic. As a history buff the anachronisms and inaccuracies in that movie drove me crazy!
4. The Goonies is my husband's favorite movie. Bill and Ted's excellent adventure is a favorite of my BFF and me. We quoted it all through high school! John Hughes ROCKS and you MUST see Ferris Bueller's Day Off! One of the most fun movies EVER! ;)
