I guess I just have family members who were adopted, so the "go to nice people" thing didn't really faze me as much as to me, that IS realistic - although definitely not always the case.
Oh, I'm not knocking adoption as a thing; it can work out really well. It's just not a guarantee the kid will be OK, and it's usually mostly a guarantee if you have a healthy white female baby you want to put up for adoption immediately. And it usually doesn't involve putting an ad in the paper and finding the right people. Hence "fantasy".
