Because I'm a huge nerd, and with the final movie coming out, and because I am rereading DH (kind of), I decided to do a round up of some of the biggest Harry Potter fan predictions and rate them. Feel free to disagree!

And for the record, I'm not including strictly shippy predictions.

Rating Format

Usual Trelawney: Might have been predicted, but it certainly didn't happen quite the way people thought. It's a stretch to call it accurate.

Exceptional Trelawney: I'll be darned!

Rita Skeeter: So far from the truth it's tabloid news now.

Neville: Sources indicate that this was supposed to happen, but it never did.

James Potter 2.0: Maybe not 100% obvious, but certainly pretty predictable. (Don't feel bad if you had no idea the James 2.0 was coming - I had no idea JK Rowling would actually have Harry name his son James like in all the fics, even though it fits wizard naming tradition.).

Prediction: Lily's eyes will have special significance

Rating: Usual Trelawney. Although the logic in this prediction was probably more along the lines of "Lily could move things with her eyes" or something, they technically did. Harry forces Slughorn to look at him in the eye (Lily's eyes), and Snape asks Harry to look him in the eye. Both times, this is to remind them of Lily.

Prediction: Peter's silver hand will kill Remus.

Rating: Usual Trelawney. Peter's silver hand never touched Remus, but it led to his own death.

Prediction: There will be a character named Icicle.

Rating: Neville. While JK Rowling swears she has no idea where that came from, I read (not urban legends read, actually read) a transcript from an AOL chat in 2001 where a user named Icicle asks something, and she tells her "there will be a character with your name!" JK Rowling did say she was going to have a character named Mafalda (not Mafalda Hopkirk), but this was for Goblet of Fire, which had already been written at the time of the chat.

Prediction: Remus has a twin brother named Romulus.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. Although certain people on my flist have given him a brother named Romulus, no Romulus ever shows up in canon except as Remus's nickname for Potterwatch.

Prediction: RAB is Regulus Black.

Rating: James Potter 2.0. Yet not everyone saw it coming - just most of fandom. I actually LOL'd when the trio was all "ZOMG" upon figuring it out. ;)

Prediction: Voldemort is Harry's Father.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. JK Rowling pretty much LOL'd at this one.

Prediction: The final word will be "scar."

Rating: Neville. JK Rowling admitted this was her original plan, but it ended up being "well" as in "all was well."

Prediction: Snape was a spy for Dumbledore

Rating: James Potter 2.0. Most fans predicted it, even a lot of casual fans, although just as many were on the fence, saying "maybe" but not entirely sure Dumbledore hadn't been wrong about him. (I cannot deny that I was one of those "on the fence" fans. Sorry Snape.) Even the reasoning ended up being pretty close to what a lot of fans said, in that they felt it had something to do with Lily.

Prediction: Draco will join forces with Harry.

Rating: Unusual Trelawney. Draco did show a hesitant side and they did work together (very) briefly in DH. However, the consensus in fandom was that Draco would completely redeem himself; whether or not he did is up to much debate.

Prediction: Someone will gain magic later in life.

Rating: Neville. It was going to happen, but never did.

Prediction: Neville will play a large role in "book five."

Rating: Exceptional Trelawney, and how! Who knew he'd end up kicking as much butt as he did? And it didn't stop there.

 Prediction: Dumbledore will die.

Rating: I'm giving it a James 2.0, because you only have to watch a few action, fantasy, and/or sci fi movies to realize the odd-but-wise old guy always dies. However, a lot of people were actually surprised by this! I think the surprise may have been more who killed him rather than the death itself..

Prediction: Neville will be a direct Peter Pettigrew parallel.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. That said, one could argue that Neville was who Peter could have been - he used his strengths to grow as a wizard and a person, and he stuck by his morals. He was also never really part of the trio, and seemed more than fine with that, still being and remaining through the epilogue (if you consider it canon) a dear friend. But that's also called life - you can't be everyone's best friend. ;)

Prediction: Sirius is really alive.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. A lot of fans were so upset after OoTP that they insisted he was really alive. I did read a "chapter" where he and Elvis were jamming out to "Jailhouse Rock" together, but it was just a hoax.

Prediction: Hagrid will die.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. JK Rowling apparently had no intention of killing him. Instead she killed Sirius... and Remus... and Tonks... and Fred... no, I'm not bitter. ;)

Prediction: Neville's parents were actually not insane.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. Sadly, they are indeed mentally ill.

Prediction: Ron will be evil.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. Ron had his "moments", but he was on the right side at all times.

Prediction: Ron is Dumbledore.

Rating: Rita Skeeter. Ron's just a normal guy.

Prediction: Harry is the Heir of Gryffindor.

Rating: I'm going to give this one an Unusual Trelawney rating, because while he wasn't actually related to Godric Gryffindor that we know of, he IS a descendant of Ignotus Peverell, which is actually quite relevant. It also works with the canon rumor in Chamber of Secrets that he was Heir of Slytherin, because there's a possibility that Voldemort comes from the Peverell line (suggesting Slytherin = Peverell = Gaunt = Voldie - anyone still following?)  So while there's nothing to suggest that Harry is a direct descendant of Godric Gryffindor, nor that he actually is the Heir of Slytherin, his bloodline did end up being important.

Prediction: Harry is a Horcrux.

Rating: Exceptional Trelawney. I hated this prediction, but... well, congratulations. You were right. Damn it. :P

Prediction: Harry Potter is evil.

Rating: *Strokes spine of The Deathly Hallows* My precioussss....

Got any others I forgot/didn't think of because I fail epically? Tell me!

Some people thought Peter's silver hand would kill Remus? I've always found it so obvious that it would kill Peter himself. 0.0

Voldemort is Harry's father = someone has been watching too much Star Wars (not that there is anything wrong with that, I love Star Wars and watch it a billion times - especially the prequels -, but I would've loathed such a parallel between Voldemort and my beloved Vader, who is good and the true hero in the end)

LOL.

Yeah, I never thought JK Rowling would actually kill him off. The fact that he's our narrator aside, it just didn't feel like that was what she was building up to.

Really? I never got that. Interesting.

Peter's silver hand was seen as dark foreshadowing because a lot of werewolf legends and stories hold that werewolves die if they touch silver. Personally I never thought that of canon Remus, because he was never shown going out of his way to avoid silver, so nothing indicated that it posed any threat.

Considering that Peter's loyalty basically changes with the wind and Voldemort is not one to take kindly to the possibility of betrayal, it was obvious that Peter's new silver hand was kind of a trap, if he was to betray Voldemort in some way.

I didn't think so, either, but plenty of people did.

One of my best friends predicted not only that Harry was a Horcrux, but that he would have to die halfway in order to destroy the Horcrux. I was uber-impressed at how accurate she was.
