Holocaust Memorial Day...
May. 5th, 2005 09:14 pm(Cross-posted to my other LJ)
I went to CNN again (after posting a rant before) and saw it is Holocaust Memorial Day.
The Holocaust... words can't even describe my dismay when I hear stories about or see pictures of it. How any human being can let others suffer like that... it saddens and scares me.
When I was about eight or nine, my parents and I went to Holland, and while we were there, visited Anne Frank's house. I honestly think that seeing it impacted my life... seeing a little girl, not much older than I was, had been forced to hide for her religion, and later died imprisoned, at the age of fifteen. That's not even a lifetime.
I also remember watching a movie about holocaust victims in 10th grade history. That, too, shaped me, in my opinion. In many parts of the video, I truly thought I was going to cry.
So, here's to those who died at the hands of a maniac whose only ambition was hate. Here's to those who still live, traumatized, perhaps still not sure if a relative lived or not.
And here's to the hope that such acts can be better prevented in the future.
