I think this all depends on subjective definitions. I don't think human beings need a huge force like love or lust to commit stupid acts, I think it's just in our natures to do so and then seek out excuses for them.

Also, it depends on your definition of stupid. I know most my family would have secretly thought I was doing a pretty stupid thing by getting married at 20 and moving to the other side of the planet to a country where I had no one but my husband and didn't speak the language at all, but it turned out to be the best thing I could have possibly done. So according to them, love caused me to do something stupid. To me, love was the motivator for me doing a beautiful thing.

I'm not sure why you're singling out lust here; parents who love their children can be the most ragingly illogical lunatics you ever saw.

These aren't the only reason people can be stupid of course. I've seen people do some very stupid things over both Love and Lust all the time. (To see how common doing stupid things over lust is just say the words unprotected sex and unplanned pregnancy.)

What one person thinks is a stupid thing might be a great pleasurable romantic risk. see Katieay's post above. I agree with amberdulen parental love can yield the biggest idiocies.

People are much more likely do do a stupid thing out of irrational behaviour; it would be more likely due to other emotions such as disgust, rage, spite etc ... or so my Hufflepuff mother would say. I think stupid things done out of love can be incredibly stupid, even without lust in the equation. However, love has the merit of making the stupid act not irretrievable, so it depends on the act. One of many things done out of sheer selfishness under the guise of love is suicide. Despair in the guise of love, no matter what type (platonic, romantic, etc) is more destructive than plain hatred.
