So I really liked it.

The stories themselves weren't as childish as I'd expected, though I still mostly liked Dumbledore's insight.

I also found some things interesting, such as "Lisette de Lapin." Lapin, huh? Ancestor of one Remus Lupin? ;) Or am I just too obsessed?

In general, I really liked it. Though I will say that it was mostly for the die-hards... I mean, I really enjoyed the insight we got into wizarding culture and history and stuff, but not everyone will really care. There's definitely very little from characters we know, although Lucius has a brief cameo, as do some others.

I'm glad I got it; I just don't have much to say, as it was just... a fun, insightful book.

One more thing - the tales were definitely more like Grimm fairy tales than Disney fairy tales. There's actually some funny commentary on that.

Doesn't 'Lapin' come from the word for rabbit ...?

No hole-crawling--! *hugsonto* I've just got a weird science-y background that tells me things like that!

Yes, and Lupin is a type of flower. XD

So is it like the Fantastic Beasts book with notes written in the margins and stuff or is it completely itself with no outside commentary?

I haven't bought it yet and it isn't on my Christmas list. Funny how things change.

Eh, I mostly got it because fellow fandom friends were poking me to get it, and because it was for charity, if that makes you feel better.

And it's actually its own commentary, so that's kinda cool.

True, but there's a cool Latinate origin for the wolfy part that predates the use for the flower. (Although, as my Latin-English dictionary informs me, 'lupin' could also refer to forged currency. O_o?)

I imagine I'll get it at some point, but it's just amusing to me because two years ago I would have been at the bookstore first thing, jumping up and down to get my copy. :P I saw it on the TV on my way to class and was like "Huh. Forgot that came out today." *shrug*

Did you also think of Lupin when the book on dealing with lycanthropy was brought up? I totally, "Aww"ed at the moment, feeling sympathy for him.

With me, I was always a bit less interested in the add-on books anyway, but yeah... in general I've noticed a lot of my HP fan friends are less interested. I still am, but I'm sure if I had something else to be obsessed with, I wouldn't be.

Yeah, I thought of Remus then too, but I tend to associate anything werewolf related with him, so.

I might be wrong, but isn't it so, that lapin refers to rabit and lupin to wolf? So not so much of a relation there:)

My favourite part was the disastrous Yuletime Pantomine of The Fountain. :-D

And once again we get proof that the WizWorld is backwards or that out Jo sucks at History: the Tales are supposed to be written in runes in the fifteenth century? I'm certain Muggle Brits had left those behind by then.

The panotmime made me think of The Worst Best Christmas Pageant Ever and how the Care of Magical Creatures professor eventually ended up with only and a half limbs.
