Nov. 6th, 2006 07:39 pm1. Why did you open a LiveJournal?
Originally, because my friends made me. Then I deleted that one... then I got azaelia_culnamo, but it was filled with so many Harry Potter things, I created this one. Then I never posted in that one, because 90% of my flisters still read this Livejournal too, and... so now, this is back to being a semi-fandom neutral LJ, although I still harp on about Harry Potter much too often.
2. Why did you choose the icon(s) you have?
How about this - I'll do a meme within a meme. Ask me about one of my userpics, and I'll explain it. (It'll also be proof that people actually read these lists. ;))
3. What's the story behind your choice of user name?
I think just about everyone on my flist, and some outside of it, knows, but... here goes: when I was younger, I always wrote after homework, including for a project I was doing. It was in the late fall/winter, so five thirty was dark... "night." Therefore, I was an "author by night."
It stuck, what can I say? (Actually, I was "Ayla Lupin" for a while... *facepalm*)
4. How long have you been in the HP Fandom?
Since 2000.
5. And the same for the Doctor Who Fandom, if you're involved in it?
Doctor who? I mean- Doctor Who who?
Oh, never mind.
6. What is your earliest actual memory that you personally remember? (As opposed to being told about it).
Being in the hospital after an operation on my nasal passages (sorry,
arianablack), and seeing my cousins playing chess. At least, I think. I have a few memories of being so little, and am not sure which one was from when. Some other very early memories:
- Floating in the bathtub, and my Mom walking in and going "oops." (I wasn't drowning, she was saying oops because my hair was wet!)
- My grandmother before her death.
- Looking at an old, brown comic book.
- Crawling up some stairs. (Might have been a dream.)
- Running across a field with a friend.
- Staring at the sky and wanting to get to the other side.
- My cousin accidentally bumping my head (she says that never happened, but I remember she did!)
7. What's your most vivid memory? (As in colours, sounds, smells, tastes etc.)
See above.
8. If you could live at any point in history, when would it be, and why?
I honestly have no idea.
9. Who was your first celebrity/character crush? Who have been the most embarrassing ones?
Celebrity: I can almost remmeber one, but I can't quite get it. I know Orlando Bloom and Jason Mraz were two of my teenage crushes, though.
Character: Remus. I actually had fantasies of him showing up at my school with all the rest of MWPP; Sirius went out with one of my friends (this was a long-lasting fantasy, so it depended on which one was single at the time), and Remus and I ended up falling in love.
I know, I know, I know.
10. What secret, guilty pleasures do you have?
Wicked. Though that's not so secret or guilty... I also like the song "Soak up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow, even though it's annoyingly perky and.. blech. I also like "Sk8er Boi" by Avril Lavigne. *Headdesk* I also like brain candy books.
11. What are your three biggest pet peeves?
1. When people cough without covering their mouths. Once, okay, fine; we all have coughs that escape us. But if you're coughing five coughs in a row, please, by cough #3, catch on to the fact that you are indeed coughing, and covering your mouth so I don't get your cold would be really nice.
2. IPod and Cellphone manners. When I ask people, "so how was your weekend?", I'd rather they not respond by shrugging and flipping on their cellphone and/or IPod. I love how people say how they wish they knew more people, yet apparently want to do so only by way of cellphone and IPod.
3. People who talk way too loudly in public places . That happened yesterday - admittedly, if I hadn't been tryingto write a chapter for NaNo, I doubt it would've bothered me as much, but honestly? President Bush probably woke up from his nap going, "where is all the shouting coming from?!" There wasn't that much noise other than him, so there was no need to. (Have I mentioned that I have hearing problems, so when I can almost make out someone's conversation if I listen and they're sitting on the other side of the restauraunt, it's a Bad Sign?)
12. Do you tell people in Real Life about your online friends/activities? If so, do they get it?
Yes... and some do, some don't. I tell people because really, there's no reason not to. Though I usually leave out the... stranger things. Plus, sometimes it overlaps... NaNo is both online and in Real Life. In fact, a flister,
meerkat, is one of them.
13. Has your personal style ever changed based on a fictional character you admired at a given time?
Not really.
14. Have you ever run into someone you know in a very odd place? Like Australia!
I bumped into my teacher while in the Canary Islands.
15. You're about to be marooned on a desert island and you can take one book, one piece of music and one luxury with you... What are they?
I really hate these types of questons. I have no idea.
16. Name one book that you've read at least five times.
Besides Harry Potter and Earth's Children books? To Kill A Mockingbird. And I get something completely different out of it each time.
17. Recommend an author of original fiction that might not be a famous name, but who you think people would enjoy. Explain why.
There's so many different people on my flist with so many different book interests. Give me a genre you like, and I'll see what I can do!
18. Did you ever switch majors/degrees in college/university? If so, why, and how many times?
Not yet, will eventually.
19. What did you want to be when you grew up?
Writer. Always.
20. Name a food you hated as a child but love to eat now.
I never liked spicey stuff, but I also have very bad reactions to it... not as bad as I did when I was younger, though. Up until I was about seventeen, if a piece of food had the tiniest hint of spice in it, I'd break into sweat and my tongue would hurt. Now I still do if it's very spicy, but I like it too much. ;)
21. What's the first nightmare you ever remember having?
Minnie and Mickey mouse being eaten by a cat... c'mon, give me a break, it was upsetting at the time!
22. Do you have a recurrent nightmare?
Something trying to eat me. I also used to dream of dogs chasing me (yes, this was long before I'd even read Harry Potter), even though IRL I am not afraid of dogs!
I also kept having Sirius-related dreams in High School. Never Remus, always Sirius, even though Remus was the Marauder I wanted to go out with. (I know, I know, sounds really fangirly... that's because it was!)
23. What's the most disgusting habit you've got that you're willing to admit to?
... not gonna.
24. Which dodgy TV Shows are you/have you been addicted to, and why?
Dodgy as in dirty or just stupid? "Dodgy" has about 87 connotations.
25. Have you ever tried something that you've read in a love scene?
Nope.
26. Algebra or Geometry?
English. :p
27. Which historical person are you most fascinated by and why?
If they are in a history book, I'm fascinated. Well, not literally, but... still.
28. Opera - yes or no?
Don't know anything about Opera.
29. When was the last time you read any poetry? What was the poem?
I'm in English classes, poetry's my life.
30. If you could choose a talent you haven't got, which would it be and why?
Singing. I think I'd act on stage if I could sing well enough... when I was in Chorus, when I was younger and thought my voice was just still developing (not to mention when I was in the chorus everyone got in), I had absolutely no stage fright whatsoever. The audience disappeared... all I had to do was think about the words I wanted to say using music coming from within, and that was it. It was like I was no longer me.
I really miss that feeling. I miss being able to do that.
31. Cryptic clues, quick ones, or neither?
Depends.
32. Do you do crosswords?
No.
33. What and when was your best ever Birthday party?
I've had many good ones, but one time, it was basically a surprise birthday weekend. My cousin came to the US as a surprise, and my parents wrapped her up in a gift bag, and had me open it.
I was sort of scared for the first five minutes, because I really wasn't expecting to see my cousin in a gift bag when she should've been in Toronto, but when I recovered, I was pleased.
34. If you were offered a role in a big movie and had to kiss the lead actor, which your significant other was uncomfortable with, would you take the part or not?
I would figure something out. If my SO was rational about it, I'd probably figure out a way to kiss the actor without kissing, but if my SO was just being stupid... I'd hit him with a pillow and tell him that he's not too dangerous, too old, or too poor, so get over it! (And if he didn't get the reference... then he wouldn't be my boyfriend. ;))
35. How many pieces of jewellery are you currently wearing and what are they?
None, unless you count my glasses.
36. Use three words to describe your best qualities.
^^
37. Use three words to describe your worst ones.
Semi-cynical, opinionated, overly-sensitive.
38. LiveJournal: a way of life or a hobby?
A bit of both.
39. Do you look on the people you "talk" to on LJ as friends, or online pals only, or acquaintances far, far away?
Friends. Although not all of them... some of them are more like sisters.
40. How in general have you met the people on your f-list? Through story writing or some other way? Do you know their real names or just user ones?
Various ways, and various answers.
41. Do you think you'll still be chatting to your f-list and using LJ in a couple of years time?
I'm sure.
42. Do you believe in horoscopes and star signs? Has anything you've read ever come true?
Well... not exactly, but I do wonder sometimes. I don't think horoscopes in magazines are true, but I figure there's no reason why stars wouldn't affect us. It's all a part of nature, right?
43. What's the most romantic thing you've ever done?
No romance yet.
44. What's the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you?
See above.
45. What kind of books do you read and who are your favourite authors?
I read a variety. Favorite authors include Harper Lee, JK Rowling, and Jean Auel.
46. Have you got a totally useless talent?
LJ-ing. ;)
47. What sort of people do you tend to get on with best?
Artsy/writer/dramatic types. All of my close friends and several relatives I'm close with fit in that category.
48. Lots of friends or a few very good ones? Do you have friends you've known for a very long time?
It's weird. I have only one real close friend in my hometown, but I have people in certain circles I'd definitely consider friends.
49. Are you good in arguements and putting the world to rights?
Depends.
50. What's the best thing about today?
It was a very simple day. :)
