I was going to mainly focus on the trio, but I keep mentioning Lyall. So let's talk about Lyall. This does refer to Pottermore canon.

1. Lyall can't really explain his relationship with Remus to anyone. They were hardly estranged, but they weren't close, at least not properly. There was a lot of guilt and secrecy on both sides.

2. Remus was named after Lyall's brother,  who now lives in Germany with his family and their parents. Lyall gets on with his brother well enough, but he doesn't get on at all with his parents.

When Remus became a werewolf they didn't hate him the way some did, but they did see him as less than whole, as though their grandson had died and been replaced by a shadow of his former self. To Lyall, that was every bit as bad as hating him.

Lyall also hates that they sent Remus money. On one hand, it probably saved his son from starvation; on the other hand, Remus couldn't afford to not take it. Lyall hates that his parents made themselves feel better by humiliating their grandson, and has vowed to be a better grandparent to Teddy.  No matter what.

3. While in hiding with his son and daughter-in-law, Lyall befriended Andromeda Tonks. After the events of the war, they grew closer, and Lyall now enjoys a special bond with her. It's not romantic - it's something of a platonic partnership, if such a thing exists. She is his constant, and he hers.

4. Another one of Lyall's closest friends is Amos Diggory, but it has nothing to do with them both having lost sons, although it did allow Amos to properly understand what Lyall was going through.  They didn't always get along - while Amos wasn't as intolerant of werewolves as some, Lyall knew he - like most wizards - had narrower beliefs about Dark Creatures in general. All this changed when Remus taught Cedric at school.

"Gave my son top marks, he did!" Amos would tell Lyall whenever they saw one another. "Finally, a Defense teacher who sees my son's potential."

When Cedric died, Fudge said that Dumbledore was lying about You-Know-Who, many began to express "condolences" to Amos that he had to put up with blatant lies on top of everything else. Lyall became quite talented at fielding them every chance he got. When Remus and Tonks died in the war, Amos returned the support.

Lyall barely remembers a time when he didn't hold Amos Diggory in high regard.

5. For Teddy's first Christmas, Lyall goes to a Muggle shop and buys him a toy with a TY sticker on its ear. He is very amused when Harry informs him that according to Hermione Granger, Muggles call them "beanie babies", and they're all the rage.

6. Lyall met Newt Scamander once; he fears he scared the man off, however, because of how enthusiastic he was at the time. He hadn't realized Newt was quite shy in person.

7. Lyall is currently studying the origin of Dementors - and finding a way to someday rid of them forever. He isn't sure when or why good wizards began making use of them, but clearly it was very unwise. Harry is helping him with this particular project.
