The Intern

I don't actually have much to say about this film, because it wasn't that substantial of a film. It was a nice film to see with my friend after we got lunch, but that was it, really. Which is a shame because I think there could've been more developed, but it kind of fell flat.

I will say it almost invokes the "woman is a mother and works full time and fails at having it all" trope, but it subverts it nicely, if more towards the end. There is no "point" that Jules should be ashamed of herself for being a busy mother and why isn't she home more? In fact, when a personal bombshell hits that she blames on being so busy with work, it's emphasized that she isn't the problem in the equation. It was very refreshing. Also refreshing was the lack of romance between the protagonists. It wasn't a romance at all, actually, although there's certainly a romantic element.

The "young people are all tech savvy and old people are old" thing got, well, old after the second time someone joked about it, so it was a bit tiresome here, but it's also a valid point; therefore, I took it. And a mishap involving a mistaken email led to a rather amusing scene. A bit cheesy and predictable, but sometimes cheesy and predictable works. However, I felt that we never got much out of that scene. It's never referred to again or anything. It just... happens and we move on.

I would definitely recommend The Intern if you're looking for something to see, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it.

Is this the one with Anne Hathaway?

If so, is the old guy her dad? I don't know why the commercials made me think that if he's not.

Yes, but no, he's actually her intern (through a senior's internship program), though he does become a mentor of sorts, too. :)

Ah, okay. Thanks.

For some reason, I had gotten the impression that he was her dad who had become her intern. LOL

I haven't heard about the film, and the whole "young people are all tech savvy and old people are old" thing gets old pretty quickly :/
