Tonks and Luna are the new Ron's and Sirius's. As in, authors like to make them complete idiots.

Granted, Ron still gets the brunt of it, but Sirius seems to have escaped that fandom fate (for the most part). Remus, however... he's treated badly as well. And both Tonks and Remus suffer in many R/T fics - Tonks as the ditzy girl who doesn't even know Sirius's name, but still magically gets rid of Remus's tears, Remus as the angsty chain smoker who is on the verge of suicide.

Maybe I should start SPORT: Society for the Protection of Our Remus and Tonks.

Not that I read much fanfiction nowadays, but I'll take your word for this, and in doing so, will also say that I don't know why Tonks is suddenly a ditz just because she's clumsy. I don't know her very well, I'd need canon shoved under my nose to have the insight others have (as what happened with Luna in HBP - JK went over the edge, IMO, but it wasn't like I didn't need the blow upside the head), but ditziness has nothing to do with clumsiness. Quite the contrary, being a klutz would only add to the spunk I've heard [only from you, really, Amy :P ] she has.

And as for Remus being too angsty... I'd... be really careful with that, is the advice I'd give. Yes, he's lost many people and has had a pretty miserable life, what with no job and no friends (or very few), but that doesn't mean he can't be strong. The dejected Remus staring into the fire could've been just one moment; one that Harry just happened to see. If he walked around like that all the time, he wouldn't be able to keep his post amongst the [bad] werewolves, so he's gotta suck it up anyway, no matter what, and that is part of being strong.

Tonks may be physically clumsy, but she can't possibly be a ditz or a dummy, because she's an Auror. People need to re-read the Career Advice chapter in OOtP. Auror is a very difficult career to get accepted into. And one needs five NEWT's. Including Potions. Oh, and guess who was teaching Potions when Tonks was attending Hogwarts?

Oooh, can I join SPORT? As pleased as I was to see R/T go canon, I'm starting to think it's a mixed blessing -- it seems to have attracted hordes of fangirls who haven't actually thought about the characters before they write, which is not something you can get away with when you're writing a romance between two brighter-than-average adults.

I've posted this before, but I'll say it again: If writers would just remember that Tonks is an Auror and Remus was a Marauder we'd be free of so much of the crapfic.

As for Luna, she's not ditzy - she's odd. There's a difference. Many noted geniuses were also dreamy, absent-minded and a bit eccentric. Many of Luna's observations are pretty sharp and on-the-ball, as Harry himself notices.

If you thought I said Luna's ditzy, I wasn't :) I was simply refering to the fact that I never picked up on JK's subtlety with regards to her. Although your point about Tonks being, not just anybody, but an Auror is a very good one, and yet another example of something I hadn't thought of (along with the fact that it was Snape teaching Potions at the time *snicker* One for Tonks!)

I've noticed that angsty-chain-smoker!Remus has been around for a long time, only before it seemed to be mostly in R/S fics.

*sighs*

And the thing is, some of the fics aren't badly written - I keep wanting to say, "Change their names and don't call it fanfic, and you'd have a good story!"

Very true... Also, Remus is a very private person, but that doesn't mean he's all angsty. As for Tonks, she is definitely not stupid, and she is very charismatic, but she does bump into things once in a while, and that's all. She *is* able to hold her own on a fight with Death Eaters, she can't be stumbling around all the time either or she'd be dead by now.
