Castle

Was it just me, or did last episode of Castle feel like a Very Special Episode?

- Everyone is in disbelief at the Problem. "Why would anyone put themselves in that situation?" "Oh my god, people do this?"

- We have a young person who has Reasons for his misdeeds. (Although to their credit, they didn't forgive him because of that, but rather used it against him.)

- The problem has recently been in national headlines.

Now, I actually think it's okay to cover things like that. And in light of gamer gate (which I assume happened after this episode was filmed, so that may be a coincidence - but given Castle's tendency to beckon to Geekdom, perhaps it wasn't coincidental), I think it's actually important. But the thing is, whereas some episodes would have had this all in the background, implied enough to get the message across, to me this was obvously their main point, which made it feel a little contrived.

Or was it just me?

That's what it felt like to me too.

Definitely a Very Special Episode. Also didn“t like how clueless they were ("wait, people actually get famous for/through social media?") and I HATED Beckett's 'breaking' the murderer. Hated. It.

Although I've still got that end jingle in my head... #Hi, I'm Richard Castle... Hi, I'm Crichard Rastle...#

Yeah, I didn't buy their cluelessness at all - especially Kate and Castle, given that one is a former fangirl type who belonged to websites for Castle at one time (although maybe that's the problem, she's like me and internet old fashioned, but I seriously doubt they thought it through that much :P), and Castle is a writer, so you'd think he would have twitter and everything. I can sort of see one of the older characters being a bit clueless, or if the episode had aired five or six years ago when "internet celebrity" really was a brand new concept to people who'd only just learned how to send an email.

Yeah, I liked that they averted the trope of "well it's okay because the guy was bullied so he's just sad", but the breaking was... awful.

The jingle was hilarious. :D

I'd forgotten about the fansite! Yeah, she would know. Plus Castle is a tech geek, he'd have a look out for the latest 'toys' and he'd keep up to date with things, especially faux-Instagram sites and such. He seems like the type of writer who'd have a serious web presence, kind of like Neil Gaiman, maybe even worse.

Yeah, they averted the trope, but then imo went full speed in the opposite direction and started bullying him, even threatening him with prison abuse??? What the hell, Kate. What. The. Hell. And she didn't even seem troubled by it!
