A situation we've all been in. Exaggerating mostly to make this universal. :P

Person A: Oh, Star Wars? I LOVE Star Wars!

Person B: Another Star Wars fan! So blather blather, mcblatherson, Han Solo -

Person A: Wait, Han who?

Person B: Han Solo.

Person A: I have no idea who that is, I haven't seen Star Wars since I was five. I know Darth Vader's Luca Moonrunner's uncle, though!

I had a slightly different moment last night. For some reason (I can't remember why) "Lore" came up as a name in our choir rehearsal last night, and someone mentioned it sounding like something out of science fiction, so I helpfully offered that it was the name of Data's evil twin brother on Star Trek: Next Generation. Cries of, "You're a Trekkie!" followed. Sheesh. My former boss knew this; she was a Trekkie too, so I was in good company. Last night I was not with kindred spirits on this count. And when a mention of "Bros" came up, only one other person knew what a Bro was. :sigh:

I've had the same conversation about someone wearing anime-related shirts and merchandise, and they just look at me blankly then mumble something about it being their friend's/boyfriend's/grandmother's brother's dentist's daughter's shirt instead. -_-'
