Writer's Block: War and peace

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Being a citizen of the US, I think my country needs to keep all who want to serve regardless of who they are before we discuss mandatory periods of service.

Not telling the truth because of what others might think was dumb in third grade, let alone as a national policy.

No.

Pacifist for almost as long as I can remember, and I would not want compulsory military service, nor would I want someone who has no opinion on war one way or the other to be enlisted. War and military enrollment is not some kind of glorious thing, and nowadays I think military training is much more dehumanizing than it should be, because war nowadays does not need humans, and in fact humans are too hurt by war to help the cause.

Not to mention, the only country with compulsory military service that I can think of off the top of my head is Israel, which is not a great example of this idea in action. And I remember reading a backstory of a random Heroes character, saying that her grandmother and mother were both Israeli soldiers, and perceiving that this was supposed to make her, like, extra badass or something. Because Israel is the most badass nation ever? No, I'm pretty sure Israel just happens to be a state that has a very lucky choice of ally. But I know that lots of Israelis are unsatisfied with the state of their own country, and in addition to giving me hope, it makes me even more certain that no one should be compelled to fight and maybe die for a cause that they do not believe in one hundred per cent.

tl;dr Les guerres sont des betises; le monde en a assez
