Question for Quillers...

Is it just me, or have people been getting less reviews ever since they had to sign into the forums to get them?

Not that I don't understand why. To be honest, I think it was necessary. People were being harassed like crazy via reviews. :(

Of course, it could also be the time of year. I know I was just studying for finals, so finals week it was hard to really review.

Still, if that is a part of it, it's too bad people don't at least sign up.

(You know, doesn't ff.n have a system where authors can choose whether or not they want anonymous reviews?)

Yes, FF.N does. I don't think SQ's system is sophisticated enough for that, though. The guy who runs ff.n is a computer programmer, I think. ;-)

True, and come to think of it, the last time Zsenya did try and get something really high tech done, the guy ripped her (well, all of us) off big time. (I'm still waiting for his "busy week" that's now lasted nearly two years to end. *Rolls eyes*)

Yeah, I think on ff.n you can sign without having to register/log in.

I really should get an account at the SugarQuill one of these days.

Yeah, you should.

SQ did used to let you just say your name, but it got to the point that anoynmous idiots were harassing people. I mean, to the point where NC-17 fics were being posted as reviews and an artist was insulted to the point where she left. So I'm actually glad they have a more protected system. And ff.n has the same problem, but the admins there can't be bothered to make people actually want to use their website. ;)

Not to mention the repeated (I assume bot) spam on some authors' review pages which meant they wound up with pages of reviews advertising poker, gambling, and pharmaceuticals ... (yep, happened to me, had to take the story down and repost it).

I didn't become a SQ author until after they started that thing, but it kind of makes sense that there would be less reviews. I'm kind of bummed, my latest update of my fic only got two reviews. :(

*Hugs*

Maybe next time.

I think reviews are down at the Quill since it does take an effort to remember and type in your password. *rolls eyes* I always amazed that people don't leave reviews anyway, and not being a member is a great excuse not to bother. I think it's harder on the new authors since one or two reviews for all that work is kind of discouraging.

One good thing about the new system is that the reviews on a whole are longer and more thoughtful. People really have something to say if they bother to log in.

And you're right about May. It's a busy month and the weather is nice in most places, so I think readership in general is down. But don't try to analyze review numbers - you'll drive yourself crazy!

But you can click an option that lets Windows remember your password. O_o Not being able to remember is a poor excuse. And if it's that difficult to remember, maybe you should change it! :p

I think there's less activity on the forum at the moment, anyway. Last year, everyone was hyped up about Goblet of Fire, but there aren't any events this year. Next year is going to be CRAZY, though.

Yeah, you're probably right. There's nothing really to anticipate this year around!

Hi! :o)

PhoenixSong as an option to allow you to block out anon reviews, as well.

Hey! :)

And cool about PS... I'm not an author there yet, as you know, so I wouldn't have any clue. But I shall see soon, hopefully!

It's partially the time of the year and partially needing to sign in. But really, it's better (IMO) to get a couple less reviews and avoid the trolls.

Plus, some people could be having trouble getting to the Quill. I haven't been able to access SQ for almost two weeks, for some strange reason, and I think a couple other people mentioned a similar problem.
