Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone

Apparently JK Rowling has been snubbed from a movie project with the original cast of the HP movies. I'm not entirely clear on the details and the link I had was being wonky, but yeah. I mean. I'm good with that.

I've heard criticisms that people think fans have "turned their backs" and that the cast has discarded everything JK Rowling gave them. To which I say... do you think it was an easy decision? This isn't me calling JK Rowling an evil person because my ship didn't become canon. This is me assessing things she decided to put out into the world, and realizing they are non-congruent with my standards of human decency. Emma, Rupert & Daniel seem to have come to that same conclusion, and honestly, I don't think that means they've forgotten where JK Rowling got them. People stop looking up to mentors all the time. People stop looking up to their parents and/or grandparents at times. It's horrible when that happens, but it happens, and I think it's actually healthy to set boundaries, and it's better to stand up for what you know is right.

Moving on from that. I guess it's been 20 years since the first Harry Potter movie. Seems crazy! I actually didn't even want to see the first movie; for some reason, I was very anti-movie, although it was very cute when the trailer came on at the theaters, and I heard a little kid squeal "Harry Potter!" :) Anyway, my (adult) cousin asked me to go see it with her on Christmas, and it was Christmas, so how could I say no? Besides, I'm willing to bet part of me actually did want to see it.

I never really got into the movies the way much of fandom seemed to, though. I recognize some of the themes, but couldn't match which scenes they go along with. All I know is that one goes "duh duh duh, duh duh duh, DUH DUH DUH" and I think it's either Hogwarts or Diagon Alley or both. (In my head, it's "Dumbledore, Dumbledore, Dum-ble-dore" because I am a dork.) Mostly the movies were just social. I went with friends and family as part of an activity.

I haven't re-read the books in ages. Maybe I'll re-read PS/SS in honor of the movie anniversary, just for old time's sake.

I had other things to talk about, but apparently Harry Potter still has the power (heh) to take over my posts. Mischief Managed! ;)

I read the first book my first year of grad school and did not like it and then ignored all things HP until one of my friends asked me to go see the third movie with her in the theater. I really liked it and from that point on, I watched all the movies. Then when the last book was going to come out, I decided I had to read all the books and went on a mad reading scramble to finish all the books so I could read the last book on the day it came out, which I did in a glorious overnight read. LOL
