GoF

Anyway.

The bloody brilliant:

- The Yule Ball.  Especially loved Hermione's "not as as last resort" line.

- Neville's reaction to the Curse. Poor guy.

- Fred's asking Angelina to the ball. So cute!

- Hermione's "I'm not an owl" line.

The "what the heck?":

- Dumbledore and Sirius telling Harry "oh, don't worry." Those are the two last people who'd say that.

- The  gender thing with the schools. It is not genetically possible for Beauxbatons to be  all-girls, or Durmstrang to be all-boys.

- The Beauxbaton girls all blowing kisses with sparkles. Gah. They should be sorted into Sparklypoo.

- The fur coats and walking sticks with the Durmstrang boys. Bulgarian does not mean Ice Age.

Other things:

-  I almost think Kloves has been dabbing into fandom. I'm certain "Pumpkin"  was mentioned rather often,  Hermione's "boys" seemed rather reminiscient of Arabella's line for Hermione ("boys, honestly"), and I swear, he's playing with the shippers.

- Did anyone notice that on three counts - only one of them definitely his call -  Snape did something in the same scene? He gives Crouch veritusaerum, which is fairly expected - but then, he opens the trunk with Moody in it, and then threatens Crouch with a wand. It's odd, because as much as I think Snape is guilty of murder... I dunno.

- That line, with Sirius adding "the bird bites" as a PS? Perfect. It's exactly like Sirius.

- Dumbledore was murdered - or, his character was. Since when does he say things like "eternal glory", and speak words of wisdom by panting them out in a loud voice?

- While I have no real attachment to the character of Amos Diggory, I must say, he looked... dorkier than I'd imagined.

- Was it just me, or was Myrtle's cudding Harry while he was naked a tad disturbing? (Funny, but on the disturbing side).

- Watching  Ralph Fiennes play Voldemort was unnerving, as it's how my friend - linda_lupos - pictures Remus. So, yeah. ;)

Overall grade: B. :) I thought it was great - a bit rushed, but overall good, as long as you don't go looking for too much 99% accuracy.

Feel free to add any thoughts in the comments!

I don't recall that in canon we ever see any males from Beauxbatons or females from Durmstrang... though I could be wrong. as for genetics, if you assume that they are exclusive schools, that's no big stretch. Remember, the WW seems to be 30-40 behind the muggle world in alot of ways.

I don't have my books on me, but I'm pretty sure that either Parvati or Padma went off with a boy from Beauxbatons during the ball.

Hm, you're probably right... though I was thinking it was a Durmstrang boy

Oh well... never claimed to be infallible :)

Try this for canon:
Ron didn't answer. He was glaring at Hermione and Krum, who were dancing nearby. Padma was sitting with her arms and legs crossed, one foot jiggling in time to the music. Every now and then she threw a disgruntled look at Ron, who was completely ignoring her. Parvati sat down on Harry's other side, crossed her arms and legs too, and within minutes was asked to dance by a boy from Beauxbatons.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean...

Was it just me, or was Myrtle's cudding Harry while he was naked a tad disturbing? (Funny, but on the disturbing side).

Yes, I definitely found it a tad disturbing. I mean, the actor is 18, but the character is 14!!! And yeah, that's disturbing. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that...

And Sparklypoo!!! LOL

The actor is 16, actually (Myrtle's actor is 38!).

"While I have no real attachment to the character of Amos Diggory, I must say, he looked... dorkier than I'd imagined."

Yeah, I thought that, too. For some reason I pictured him as a more burly, macho kind of dad. In the movie he looked more like an eccentric teacher/professor.
