It's odd. Everyone knows it was a terrible thing that happened to Frank and Alice Longbottom, especially leaving Neville behind as they did to deal with the situation with only his grandmother for comfort...

But rarely do we think about the fact that these were Hogwarts students once as well, with the same hopes and challenges that Harry and his gang faced. But their story ended so badly. Seeing Alice as a first year forced me to confront that today, so I thought I'd share. It gives their tragedy a bit more depth. :\
