Given the size and scope of the Harry Potter fandom (with over 100,000 authors on FanFiction.Net alone), I don't think that anyone could really write a comprehensive history of the fandom while trying to synthesize multiple perspectives. To do so would require a text that would be really, really long and would likely be irrelevant to a lot of people. :/
