My name is Kelsey (penguingeek, and, well, I'd rather you not quote me. I am from the USA!
I am sixteen now, and was eleven when I got into Harry Potter.
I thought the series was stupid before I read it. And I even read some of it, thought it was boring, and set it down. But then I picked it back up and loved it. I believe I can thank JK Rowling for my avid reading (or, the fact that I read at all). I don't think that if I hadn't read Harry Potter, I wouldn't read as much as I do today. I've learned a lot from it and it's given me so much to think about. I feel more educated since I've read the series. My friends, partly inspired by the series, signed up to take Latin in eighth grade, and of course, I followed. I am now in my third year of Latin, and I feel that I can thank Harry Potter for introducing me and loads of others to the language (though it is difficult!). Harry Potter also has given me so much to do since discovering it! My life has thrived on Harry Potter since I first saw the movies, and now that the series is almost over, it seems like the end of the world is coming.
My friends were the ones who loved the series before I did, and they indirectly introduced me to it. When my brother wanted to get the Sorcerer's Stone DVD, that's when I really wanted to read it. (Ironically enough, he's the one who doesn't want to read the series at all, now.)

Hope that's efficient! :)
