And for some of us, it's not an option. I have one fandom, that I write in not for the audience but because I need to write it, but I post just in case anyone out there in the world might happen to care. I know everyone on LJ who knows the fandom. It's a very rare fandom - there isn't even a body of people somewhere in the world who a) know the fandom and b) know what fandom is. I can't get my stuff checked for adherence to canon or characterisation because the few people who do know the fandom are too busy to beta my work.

I don't need someone to check my spelling and grammar. I need someone to tell me it makes sense for the characters (especially the random, historically inaccurate but thoroughly adorable and probably in character slash). If a beta doesn't know the fandom, he/she is no help to me.
