Purity culture in fan culture boggles my mind. Although I'll admit it was there even in some of my past fandoms, but those people tended to be shut down fast. Apparently there are circles where it's very much A Thing. I don't get it. When I was more into fandoms than I am now, it was pretty much Burning Man.
