What bothers me the most about assigning autism to every 'quirky' character is when it isn't someone's statement of personal headcanon, but instead, a weird attempt at opening a conversation or discussion without any substance, thoughtfulness, or follow-through. Someone says, "I think this idea is neat" and doesn't have any follow-up, just stating their idea, okay, you do fandom the way you do fandom, I'll move on by. Someone else says, "I think this idea is neat and I'm going to try to argue for it while ignoring things like the character being a young child lacking in peer-appropriate socialization or animation having a limited wardrobe budget," then I get grumpy.
